London Classic Theatre “same time, next year”

On January 3rd I started working with London Classic Theater for the show “Same Time, Next Year”.
We had a meeting to see the design of the set and costume design that the Set and Costume designer had brought us.

After that, we read the script with the actors.
On January 4th, I went with the costume designer to carry the stage costumes in vintage by the kilo “Think Vintage” https://www.think-vintage.co.uk/.There, we found some cheap stage costumes.

On January 5th, we went to Beyond Retro Dalston (https://www.beyondretro.com/pages/store-locator-dalston), where we noticed some costumes we needed but too high a price to fit in the budget in the afternoon we searched the internet.
On January 10th, we had a meeting with the rest of the crew to see what we had and the costs for the set.

On January 11th, we fitted some dresses that came from online orders and some from vintage shops.

We did the fitting until 1pm and sewed all the alterations up until before the show.

During the fitting, I got to see how the actors have to be comfortable in their costume and adapt it for the scene they have to do.

Doris’ 1950s costume was tight at the waist on the skirt and the hem was too long.
The darts at the waist of her blouse were too tight.
Thus, the costume designer showed me where to unstitch and lengthen the waist strap by taking the leftover fabric of the skirt and widening the pleats as much as possible. With the blouse, we took the plus size and tightened the pleats in the middle of it.
With the character of George, we picked up the darts on the back, we had to open all the lining and move the seams. for the trousers, we tightened the darts at the back and adjusted the strap and shortened the hem.
In the third scene, we tried to position the accessories, such as the scarf and hat as the character could wear them. Here I understood the importance of dressing things as the character might bring them to make the story more truthful.
in this jacket, we have moved the button line to the right and shortened the sleeves
the dress was very simple with short sleeves with pockets, we dyed it yellow, closed the pockets and put on a collar.
the jacket he is wearing before was a men’s tunic which we shortened at the hip level, added pleats on the front and back and opened in the middle.
The shoes were dyed the same yellow as the dress from before.
we looked for some wigs for George and this one was the least suitable for us
we found a blue night gown and the designer costume designer had this laminated fabric and a brownish decorative ribbon that she decided to make us a tunic
70s costume for Doris, the size was wrong and a larger one was ordered
80s costume for Doris, the shirt was large on the dart, so I tight a bit

On the 12th, more costumes came and we did the fitting. We organized the rail for the show. After that, each organized herself with the garments to be altered at home. for the next time.

The week of the 16th, we had the latest modified garments tried on and changed some alterations. We organized the rail with the last few things, and then put it on the van for transport.

the morning before the show, I did a standby costume for a while, if there was something unstitched during rehearsals, I sewed it and always during rehearsals, ironed and washed the last things and then tidy them up in the dressing rooms.
